"The Legend"

It's daytime and I am out for a walk. I live in a village in a place they call "The Valley of the Clouds". There have been many stories told to the children at bedtime about a Legend, a soul living in the dark in the Cavern of Souls, located in the deepest part of the vast forest, not far from here.

I turn my steps to go once more to the secret cavern, and look behind to make sure no one is following me. Others have respect though, for the forest and the Cavern of Souls - they do not dare to go there. Even talking about this place, their eyes open wide and suddenly they have a chore or two to do right away. I smile thinking about them.

They are such a warm-hearted people, my people in the Valley of the Clouds.

People outside would have difficulty even finding here I thought, while my steps were going faster and faster. The Valley as a constant dim atmosphere until the highway, for not even the light of the cars can cut through it. Therefore, it has been in peace and silence over the centuries. Sometimes I had heard there had been break-ins, but strangely when they arrived, the person has vanished into the dark.

No one knows this forest as I do, and usually those who had tried to follow my path, had lost themselves in the cavern where I would walk through. I look ahead and a smile forms as I see the rocks. So familiar as they had become to me during these last years, and they were my secret path to happiness.

The people living in the valley are long forgotten and only whispered about.

We live here inside the clouds of dimness.

I look up as I can already hear the music coming from the cavern. It was calling to me; I almost dance my steps as I run lightly to the entry. I reach it quickly, but then I stop and just stand still, closing my eyes and listening to the music that had its birth with the wind in all those small holes everywhere in the cavern. I smile again and step in. At first the only visible thing was the darkness, and when my eyes got use to it, I could see the different entries where so many had lost themselves.

Then walking a little further, the way known only by me, the light floated in, and I could see thousands of crystals shining in prisms with all the colorings of a rainbow. Imagine what I am feeling now, in the present, the wind with its music, like thousands of angels singing, with tones of a harp playing and the crystals shimmering and glittering. Yes, a dream you could say. I adore this place! My soul gets a bump and my heart floats into the same rhythm as I hear the voice that I had been longing for, in the many days and nights I was not able to come here. The voice of the one I loved with my entire soul. I knew I still had some way to walk into the deepest part of this holy cavern.

The echo was so perfect here that you could hear the voices loud and clear, as if they had come from right beside you, but yet were so far away. As I came into another big cavern, there were gems in the walls of the rocks, lighting the way I had to go. The little spring that formed a small lake in the middle was so clear that you could see right down to the bottom; yet "he" had told that this one did not have a bottom. It had energy in it, that glowed an electric blue shine that changed to green and pink in a magic flare from the bottom. It was the beginning of the secret in the valley - the secret of the eternal life of the souls. There was thought to be only one who was allowed to merge in the lake, and that was "him", my beloved that I was going to meet.

This was my last journey to the caverns; after this, I would stay and remain there forever. I went beside the rocks and could see my face reflected in the wall of stone; it was smooth like a mirror. I smiled, pleased with the image I could see, and I was excited because of the upcoming events. I still could not believe it, but I was ready. How long I had waited for this moment! I knew that, liberated, I could free my people from the prison of the surrounding dimness.

Oh I could not waste time, and I continued to walk until I came to a narrow opening I had to go through. After awhile I came to another opening, and I could straighten up again. I look around and can see all the tunnels opeining in every direction like a shining star. Every path had its shining color; every path seemed to call in a whispering voice, "Come this way!" I knew though which way I was supposed to take, and I stepped into the green one and immediately it lit up. I knew there were traps amongst the other paths. The path turned to go up, and down, and it circled until there was a wall before me.

I could hear the chant louder now, and my mind was hypnotized. I start to sing, to answer the chant, and then the wall opens up. I just stand there and look into the cavern that was a huge mighty hall. I see the throne in the middle of it, dancing in every color you could imagine, for it was made of crystal. I look further and then I see "him", my King, my beloved. As always, I admire his shoulders and long curly hair falling to the middle of his back. I smile. He turns around slowly and I can see his face where his lips were upturned into the most beautiful smile I had ever seen. My eyes follow his gestures with much love, and beaming withe happiness. I was waiting.

“Welcome my love, welcome to our realm! I have been waiting for your arrival.”

“Thank you my beloved husband and King, I am happy to finally be here.”

I answered him with a soft voice and smiled. I walked towards him and straight into his arms that he had opened wide to receive me and close into a strong and long embrace.

“Are you sure no one was following you?”

“Yes my love, I am sure!”

“Can we begin then? Are you ready?”

“I am as ready as I can be!” I smiled.

He led me to a smaller inner cavern, and left me there while he went back. I could hear him chant again, and held my breath while falling down on my knees. There was a bowl right in front of me, with the energy from the lake in the cavern. It glowed in the dark and was the only light I had. I stretch out my hands to the bowl and merge them in the energy. As the chant becomes wilder, I lift up my hands and join the chant while the energy was flowing to my arms and my body and taking hold of me. The ceremony that would give me the chance to stay with my beloved, and give final peace to me and my people. If you have not figured it out yet, I used to be the Queen of the "Valley of the Clouds" and my King left the earthly a long time ago. I was condemned to walk and live in the village. The people could not see me, touch me, or speak to me. The only touch I had with someone was when I entered this cavern.

It was kind of cute to hear the people talk about the legend while I was sitting there beside them, sharing a pleasant evening with them, but it only filled me with emptiness. I wanted to touch, but my hand would go through them, and there were no feelings. It made me sad, but I knew this day would come when I would get together with my beloved King and stay with him forever. It was the faith, and curse, that only 100 years from your death could you be free.

The "energy" had flowed through my whole body and I was ready to receive the final touch. I stepped out and stood in front of my King. He touches me with his want. Immediately the whole energy turns into a glow that shifts in colors. I feel hot and shake, and am falling down to the ground without any strength.

After a while, I rise, smile and whisper, "We are free!"
